Impact of Trauma in Relation to Substance Use Disorder
Substance use disorder and trauma are often interconnected. Almost 75% of people with substance use disorder also have a history of trauma. Some experts believe that number is even higher. Trauma can be a trigger for substance misuse, as individuals may turn to drugs or alcohol to cope with the emotional pain and distress caused by their traumatic experiences. In turn, substance misuse can exacerbate the effects of trauma and make it more difficult for individuals to heal and recover.
This training will cover the behaviors associated with attempts to cope with trauma using substances. We will review protective and risk factors for substance use disorder (SUD) in order to effectively address the issue.
This training is FREE and open to the public. BBS CEUs will be available.
This 1-day instructor led training is intended for a variety of different clinical professionals and non-clinical paraprofessionals, such as therapist, social workers, case managers, teachers, law enforcement, counselors, line staff and many more!
