Placer County Systems of Care is offering a Co-Occurring Disorders training(Remote) with Darla Belflower October on 15th & 17th, 2024, 9:00am-12:00pm. Must attend both days to earn credits.
October 15th & 17th 9:00am-12:00pm
Co-occurring Disorders are associated with increased symptom severity, lower rate of treatment adherence, higher rates of dropping out of treatment, increased risk of suicide, and greater risk of relapse. (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration [SAMHSA], 2020). Treatment is complicated by the fact that many professionals are insufficiently trained in assessing and treating co-occurring disorders. This course will provide education regarding the prevalence of co-occurring disorders, assessment tools for this population, strategies for engagement and treatment interventions for people who have a diagnosis of co-occurring disorders. This course blends didactic material with interactive exercises to help the learner understand the needs of this population while delivering services.
Participants will be able to:
- to identify at least two risk factors for co-occurring disorders when screening for COD and determining the need for further evaluation and diagnosis in the clinical setting.
- explain at least one reason why the best practice of treating co-occurring disorders is integrated treatment and at least one alternative way to proceed if that best practice of integrated treatment is not possible in the clinical setting.
- apply the six dimensions of the ASAM assessment to guide service planning and treatment in the clinical setting.
- to explain how to stage clients using the stages of change and identify what interventions to implement based on that stage when working with clients with COD
- specify appropriate use of the Motivational Interviewing Tool, Readiness, Importance, and Confidence Ruler, as well as prepare two questions to elicit change talk when working with clients with COD.
- Training held on Zoom
- 2- day training course with learning objectives
- Earns 6 CEUs for attending and completing.
These trainings are free and open to the public. BBS continuing education units are offered for this training. Please see the attached flyer for more details.
