A large portion of our workforce are peers who have lived experience. This helps us connect better with the people that we serve. Within the last few years, the peer workforce has begun to grow tremendously as employers and the government recognize their skills and experience as an asset.

Here are some statistics on suicide rates provided by NAMI, use these to #educateyourself on mental health.
"DID YOU KNOW that the highest rates of suicide in the U.S. are among American Indian/Alaskan Natives, followed by non-Hispanic whites?
According to NAMI, #suicidepreventionmonth is a time to raise awareness and discuss this highly stigmatized topic. Suicidal thoughts, much like mental health conditions, can affect anyone regardless of age, gender or background.
📌If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis, call or text 988 immediately.
📌You can also text NAMI to 741-741 to be connected to a free, trained crisis counselor on the Crisis Text Line."

Find Your Anchor is a grassroots movement aimed at suicide prevention, awareness and education.
The premise behind Find Your Anchor is that each person needs an anchor. "Establish an anchor — a dependable, stable, secure base that you can hold on to, one that keeps you firmly planted, no matter what winds or storms may come."
Find Your Anchor doesn't assume to be the anchor, or have all the answers, rather, it sets out to create a community of anchors, all with the help of some little blue boxes.
The physical form of Find Your Anchor is a small blue box packed with various materials designed to inspire, soothe and offer support. These boxes are then launched in public places (the library, the Vegas strip, etc.) to be found by those in need; specifically those close to suicide in one way or another.
The boxes are intended to be organic in the sense that each person can add to the box their own inspiration and anchors before passing it along.

In the United States, suicide is the second leading cause of death for youth aged 10-14 and the 12th leading cause of death overall.
Don’t wait for the “perfect moment” to ask about suicide. If you are noticing unusual behavior and are concerned about a loved one, reach out and listen to what they have to say. Reaching out to an individual in need of support can make a world of difference for both you and them.

This #SuicidePreventionMonth (and always), let's make sure we're talking about suicide without using stigmatizing language. Scroll through these slides for a few examples of words/details to avoid, as well as more neutral language they can be replaced with.
